A Spinal Tap for Christmas??

Yep, for my dad, that is...On Christmas Eve my dad was admitted into the ICU, here in Brandon. He and my mom came over the day before Christmas Eve (last Wednesday) and my dad had a really bad headache. No medicine was taking away the pain, it was so severe that we had to call 911 on Christmas Eve. By the time he got to the ER via ambulance, his fever was almost 107. He was diagnosed with strep pneumoniae meningitis. The drs think it was brought on by a sinus infection, and because he's diabetic, he could not fight the infection like a normal person may have. Basically, it's a bacterial infection, but it spread into his blood stream and into his brain, and into his spinal fluid. It's been a week and he's still on a breathing tube and sedated. All of his tests came back clear, there is nothing else wrong with his brain or his heart. And tomorrow they're going to take the breathing tube out, thank God. He is still in ICU, and will probably remain in the hospital for at least another week, we're not sure. They think he's on his way to recovery, but I'm sure he still has a way to go before he's 100%. The doctors and nurses at the hospital have been amazing. They are very thorough, compassionate and have treated my dad like royalty, even though he's been sedated for a week and wouldn't know the difference! He slept right through Christmas. We miss him and can't wait until he "wakes up". I will post some pics from Christmas later (somehow Santa managed to give the boys an amazing Christmas), but just wanted to share the news with my blog family as to why I haven't posted in a while. Please pray for my dad, and the nurses and doctors that are taking care of him.
