Not sure why but this week has been oddly busy. Nothing really major happening, just trying to keep the boys occupied so no one loses their minds. Less than a month of summer left for us, school starts on August 4th! Of course, it won't feel like "school" because it's a blasted inferno here right now. We've been reaching 94 degrees during the day and not so much rain in the forecast. Nothing to do but swim swim swim. The boys are teaching themselves more swimming techniques every day. I looked over at RJ in the pool the other day and he was doing the backstroke. Where did this kid come from? Jackson is "diving" to depths unheard of for a four year old to retrieve toys, diving rings, dirt, anything he can pull up from the bottom.
Yesterday I was playing hide-and-seek with Jackson. It was my turn to hide. He usually finds me instantly, no matter where I hide. This time was a little different. It wasn't a hard spot by any means, but I was chuckling and giving myself high fives because he just wasn't finding me. Well, approximately fifteen minutes later, I start to cramp from the way I was hiding and I hear a sound coming from the living room. It's the sound of his Leapster (child's version of a handheld video game). I creep out, thinking maybe RJ had awakened from his nap and had gotten hold of it. No. It was Jackson, completely enthralled in a game and didn't even look up at me. I asked him if he had trouble finding me and did he forget we were playing a game. He said, "No, Mom. I just got bored with you." I didn't even know he knew the word "bored." A little taken back (and sore), I firmly told him that is not how we play a game and that I was crouched in a weird position behind his bed and that if he didn't want to play anymore, he should have been polite enough to tell me. I let him know my back and legs hurt from hiding so long and he said, "Maybe you should take some Tylenol." Not once did he look up from that Leapster. Today I will be the one counting.
