The thing about boys...

is that they're so real it's scary. No one will ever tell you more truth in one day than a little boy. Today, for instance, Jackson does not like my hair because it's in a ponytail. He protests the ponytail all day, says he doesn't like me if my hair is in a ponytail, and actually reaches for the elastic holding it in place in order to tear it out, along with a few hairs while doing it (ouch). I ask him if he'd rather have a mommy with greasy, flat hair walking down the street. He just stares at me blankly, as if it was a trick question. Finally he just tells me I'm prettier with my hair down, and so I take it down and try not to make eye contact with passersby who I'm sure are aware that I haven't washed it in two days. But at least Jackson likes me now;-)

And then there's RJ. RJ fights tooth and nail about everything these days. If the sky is blue, he'll say it's not. He's bitten off his nose to spite his face on many occasion. Today it's about sleeping. He's almost 3, and still fights it a little on a daily basis. So afraid he's going to miss something. Every time I go to leave his room, he suddenly comes down with an illness. His stomach hurts, his legs hurt, his back needs to be rubbed, and today he actually told me his face hurt. I told him his face hurt because it needed to sleep. He said "oh. you're right," and drifted off to sleep.
